Female Cat In Heat, won’t shut up, what do I do???!?

Help! My cat is 6 years old and she's has constantly been in heat, and now we've had enough of it, we're trying everything to get her to stop! but it's just not working!

Are there any ways to get her out of heat?

Spaying is out of the question, too expensive, cruel, and doesn't even work most of the time.

Forgot to mention that she has been in heat since late November!

You're not intelligent enough to have a pet. Spaying ALWAYS works. When the uterus and ovaries are removed, there's NO WAY they can come back into heat. Maybe you should try reading up on some of these things. Cats are copulation-induced ovulators. They won't go out of heat until they ovulate. They won't ovulate until they're bred. Duh. Pretty simple to someone who can read. You really think spaying is cruel but letting her suffer with bout after bout of unrequited heat and/or having litter after litter isn't cruel. Just having her live with someone as ignorant as you is the most cruel thing that could happen. I've put in a request to have Animal Control come pay you a visit. You'll probably get a citation or maybe even get arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

  • She will stop when she goes out of heat. You could board her with your vet. until then Spaying prevents cats from ever going into heat again. I don't know how you got the idea that it doesn't work most of the time. It works 100%. Your cat seems to have a hormonal disorder and only a veterinarian can treat that, most likely by spaying the cat although there may be other options. If you don't go to the vet, you won't know.

  • Spaying is not cruel, and it is absolutely 100% effective. If your cat doesn't have a uterus or ovaries she will never go into heat again and your problem will be solved. It is an extremely routine surgery and can be done at a very low-cost if you know where to look. You are allowing your cat to be at risk for many infections and cancers by NOT spaying her.

  • Spaying is NOT cruel, and it DOES work. If you refuse to get her spayed then you need to put up with the howling each and every time. And be prepared for things like pyometra (a deadly infection of the uterus), mammary cancer (risk increases with each passing heat cycle) and urine marking so that she can leave a message for the male cats. It's not expensive and certainly less than an emergency spay for pyometra. It becomes much more common in older females - like yours. Low cost spays are available all over - programs range in cost between $20-75.

Spaying is not cruel as it has so many health benefits to the cat. What IS cruel is to allow her the misery of heat cycles over and over and over again. Suck it up, become both educated and responsible, and get her spayed. Your only other option is to continue with the heats, and then get her in to the vet for emergency surgery, or wondering why she hasʙʀᴇᴀsт lumps, or cleaning up cat ᴘᴇᴇ from your house when she urine marks. The choice is yours.

  • Spaying is your only option, it does work if done correctly and all tissue is removed, and what's cruel is allowing her to be in a constant heat her entire life. Indoor cats can stay in heat all year round. Just be honest and say youre too cheap and don't care enough about the cat. Good luck when she gets pyometra and she HAS to be spayed or she'll die. I hear mammary cancer is fun too. Idiot.

  • You are killing your cat by not spaying. Its NOT expensive. Call your local shelters for low cost vets. Many times they have special deals for spay/neuter that are VERY cheap.

The longer you let her be in heat, the more at risk you put her for getting pyometra (infection of the uterus) which will kill her in a painful manner.

She should have been spayed YEARS ago. Either spay her immediately or surrender her to a shelter where they will rehome her and spay her.

Also as soon as they are spayed, they will NOT go in and out of heat and they WILL stop yelling day/night.

  • It's not cruel to spay. Leaving her in her obvious discomfort is what is cruel. She's not able to mate or get her frustrations out in any way. Do the responsible thing and spay her. If she ever escaped your house and was in heat, you'd have to raise kittens.

  • Spaying isn't cruel and it does work. It's cruel to let her suffer, in heat all the time. Go to your local ASPCA or Humane Society. They often offer lower cost procedures.

  • First of all, spaying a cat certainly does help because she can't go into heat if she is spayed. Secondly, that that age if she seems to be constantly in heat, she could have pyometra, which is a potentially fatal infection of the uterus. She needs to go to the vet.

  • I don't know where you did your research at or where you got your info from.

But I wish you would have posted a link proving that spaying does not remove the hormones to prevent pregnancy and the urges to mate.

I think you are just a young child that knows nothing, and are

    just TROLLING
