How many moles of CO2 are produced when 5.45 mole of ethane are burned in an excess of oxygen?

  • 2(C2H6)+9O2 gives 4(CO2) +6(water)

    therefore 2 moles of ethane gives 4 moles of CO2 then for 5.45 moles of ethane we have

    =(4)(5.45)/2=10.9

    therefore 10.9 moles of CO2 is evolved

  • C2H6 + 32 O2 ----->2 CO2 + 3H2O

    1 mole of ethane forms= 2 moles of CO2

    5.45 moles will give = 10.9 moles.

  • ethane is made of 2 carbons: C2H6

    since each carbon would break off into carbon dioxide, you would end up with twice as many moles of CO2 as you had ethane: 10.9
