  • yes. He is a doctor/psychologist, but not a medical psychiatrist. That makes him credible as a counselor. very credible. He had to spend years getting these degrees and hundreds of hours doing counseling to get these certificates, and re-certifications every 2 years or so. I was on the same path, and I did not make it to graduating only an M.A. He is to be respected for those accomplishments alone! I have a BS in Psych and 1/2 an M.A. in experimental social psychology (which means I am a failed counselor).

"Dr. Phil has a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from North Texas State University with a dual area of emphasis in clinical and behavioral medicine. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in the great state of Texas."

    From his website.

PS, I do not consider him fat or obese, he may be a little overweight, but most people are as well.

  • Yes, he was an actual doctor when Oprah met him and crowned him Dr Phil.

  • Dr. Phil is an entertainer with a degree in psychology. He’s a blow hard, know it all alcoholic cracker with a big mouth.

  • Dr. Phil McGraw has a Ph.D. in psychology

  • He is a professional psychologist and he has a Ph.D., so yes, he actually is a real doctor. You can find that information in the back of his books.

  • Doctorate in clinical psychology

  • Yes. He is a psychologist. I believe he spent a lot of time treating people with eating disorders before starting his TV career.

  • Not after Scary Movie

  • He certainly is a graduate of a real Medical School. He is a licensed MD.
