  • Depending on the breed of macaw you have it can take 24 to 28 days for the eggs to hatch. The smaller breeds of macaws can start to lay eggs when they get to maturity, which is about 2 years old. The larger breeds reach maturity when they are about 5 years old. This does not mean they will lay eggs at this age, it just means they are capable of it. Other factors come into play when it comes to actually laying the eggs. Some will not lay unless they have the proper sized nest box. If they don’t have mates that they have bonded with, they may not lay eggs either. Please read my profile

do not ever buy parrots eggs, its always a scam plus, macaws are very difficult to hand feed unless you are capable of staying home for 6 weeks and feed it around the clock, if you miss a feeding, it could die, if the formula is too cold it can get a yeast infection, too hot? it melts the crop the bird dies, plus, if you manage to get it to weaning by yourself it will be overly dependant and you will end up with a very bad situation buy a macaw from a breeder who will NOT let you take your bird home until it is weaned, who will let you visit once or twice a week after sanitising top to bottom and scrutinizes you,, you will be rewarded with a SANE stable well adjusted bird, for the next 80 YEARS

  • For the large macaws (e.g., Buffon’s, greenwing, and hyacinth), the incubation period is 24-28 days. Time from first external pip until the chick is free of the egg is usually 1-3 days.
