Orange toenails after surgery?

My dad recently had surgery on his hip about a week ago so he hasn’t been moving around one of his legs a lot. That leg’s toenails are turning a little orange on the sides, what could it be? The other leg’s toenails that he has been moving around is fine though.

  • They probably aren’t turning orange, that is residue from a substance called betadine that hospitals use during surgery. His entire leg was covered with it before surgery to keep it clean and prevent infection. What you are seeing is staining from the betadine since it doesn’t wash off of toenails once they are stained with it.
