Physics question about collisions?

A 250g ball collides with a wall. The figure shows the ball’s velocity and the force exerted on the ball by the wall. http://session.masteringphysics.com/problemAsset/1…

What is vfx, the ball’s rebound velocity?

1 Answer

  • The ball is rolling at 10m/s

    upon hitting the wall/ it is pushed backward with a force of 500n for 8ms

    250 g =0.25kg

    F = MA or A =F/M

    A = 500/0,25 =2000 m/sec^2

    V = Vo + At

    V = 10m/s -2000*8/1000m/s

    V = (10 -16) m/s

    V = -6 m/s
