  • Hola, Jake:

What are the instructions for this exercise? Can you freely choose the verbs? Have you been asked to write sentences in the preterite tense or do you have to fill in the blanks?

    1. Nosotros / fiesta

    • Your sentence: Nosotros tuvimos —– fiesta. (verb ‘tener’)

    • Correct sentence: Nosotros tuvimos UNA fiesta. (verb ‘tener’)

    • Also possible: Nosotros fuimos a UNA fiesta. (verb ‘ir’)

In your sentenece you need to add the indefinite article before the noun ‘fiesta’.

Remember that Spanish articles have to agree in gender and number with the noun they describe.

    • fiesta: feminine singular noun → It requires a feminine singular indefinite article: UNA

    1. Roberto y Elena / regalo / amigo

    • Your sentence: Roberto y Elena —- trajeron un regalo —- amigo. (verb ‘traer’)

    • Correct sentence: Roberto y Elena LE trajeron un regalo A SU amigo. (verb ‘traer’)

    • Also possible: Roberto y Elena LE dieron un regalo A SU amigo. (verb ‘dar’)

    • Also possible: Roberto y Elena LE llevaron un regalo A SU amigo. (verb ‘llevar’)

In both sentences you HAVE TO write the indirect object ‘le’. (And I think you will be expected to write the possessive adjective ‘su’ instead of the indefinite article ‘un’ in ‘A SU amigo’ (i.e, ‘to their friend’ instead of ‘to a friend’).

    • IO: a su amigo (= a él) → indirect object pronoun: LE

    • Roberto y Elena (= ellos): 3rd person (plural) ‘possessor’ → possible possessive adjectives: SU/SUS

    In this sentence:

    • amigo: SINGULAR noun → SINGULAR possessive adjective: SU

    Saludos. ㋡

    .

  • 1)tuvimos UNA fiesta = we had A party

    2) …regalo A UN amigo = brought a present TO A friend.

  • 1)tuvimos UNA fiesta

    3) … Y … Dieron un regalo a un amigo

    Hope this helps
