  • overjoyed, elated, ecstatic. of course, none actually fit your sentence, which is why people say it the way that they do. there isn’t a word to express happier than happy without going hyperbolic and being ecstatic, unfortunately. So, they are happy to help; in fact, happier than happy, but apparently not ecstatic.

Read the book, if you child asks, then explain it’s another word for happy and your child will say “oh”. Are you embarrassed that you child might know that gay means something else too? Children have seen ambiguity in language before, it happens all the time. Now, if you’re embarrassed because you don’t want to say the word gay perhaps the issue is with your acceptance of LGBT people more than your child’s ability to understand a preschool book.

  • elated, enraptured, entranced, euphoric, exhilarated, intoxicated, rapturous, rhapsodic, exultant, jubilant, triumphant; enthusiastic, excited, thrilled; blissful, delighted, glad, gratified, happy, joyful, joyous, pleased, satisfied, tickled. These all might help but of course none of them can fit in the sentence “I’m more than happy to help you.” That’s why people say ‘more than happy’, because though we all can find lots of synonyms for most words, almost none if not none mean exactly the same thing. So unless you NEED to find something that works for a story or something, just stick with ‘more than happy.’ If you asked out of curiosity, well, here’s your answer. I hope this helps:)

  • More Than Happy

  • I think in this case ‘delighted’ would fit, but the term more than happy gives enough emphasis in its own right in showing desire to help.

  • If they’re not one of the synonyms provided by others, then they’ve lied and they’re no more than happy, if they’re even happy at all.
