Okay so ever since I’ve played soccer I never knew what a clean sheet is.
So what is it?

a clean sheet is when a team doesn’t concede a goal in a football match.

It means when a team doesn’t concede any goals, but it’s mostly used refering to the ‘keeper specifically. As the above poster said one of the theories is the match reporters notebook although I did hear another one a few years back(the truth of which I don’t know). Before crossbars and nets the goal size was decided literally by a bedsheet. If the ball didn’t hit the sheet, thus putting no muddy marks on it, by the end of the match it would still be a ‘clean sheet’. I suspect the first idea about reporters is true though and the second is just a romantic thought!

A clean sheet is when a goalkeeper does not concede (does not let in) any goals throught out a whole game (90 mins)
Van Der Saar Manchester United’s keeper had 12 clean sheets in a row last season, meaning that he had not let in a single goal in 12 matches

A clean sheet occurs when a football goalkeeper does not concede any goals, thus leaving the score sheet ‘clean’, since nobody’s name will be there.

NEITHER will keep a clean sheet to be honest, Fulham is playing away and unless its 0-0 i dotn see them keeping a clean sheet and fulham rarely draw/win away from home. They were really lucky at Anfield tho’

A “clean sheet” can be attributed to the whole team, the defence or just the goalkeeper when they play an entire match without conceding a goal.

It’s when a goalie gets a shut-out
