For the past 4 days now, I’ve been CRAVING salads. This is highly unusual for me to be so enthusiastic about eating salad. Every now and then I’ll eat one (as in a course of a meal at a restaurant). But other than that, I’m not much of a fan. However, lately all I crave is salad! Why is this?
If there are any nutritionists or doctors reading this, please comment. Thanks.
Hi, I’m not a nutritionist, but I read a lot =)
Some studies say that when you crave something, it’s your body’s way of telling you it lacks a certain nutrient (Some sort of vitamin or mineral, or macro-nutrient…)
But other studies prove the exact opposite. That cravings are simply a mental thing,if you like salads very much, you’ll just crave it often.
Now you said you don’t like salads that much.
I’ve never liked any kind of animal meat in my entire life. But a few months ago, I was having some REALLY strong cravings for that stuff. A week later, I found out I wasn’t getting enough protein at all in my diet! So I personally believe it’s your body trying to tell you something.
Hope I helped =)

Why am I CRAVING salads?
For the past 4 days now, I’ve been CRAVING salads. This is highly unusual for me to be so enthusiastic about eating salad. Every now and then I’ll eat one (as in a course of a meal at a restaurant). But other than that, I’m not much of a fan. However, lately all I crave is salad! …
It could be a response to a need for fiber or lighter food, esp if you’ve recently at very saucey or fatty foods. I personally get that craving after I eat a lot of cheese or meat, regardless of how much fruit or other vegetables I’ve eaten. I guess consider it a blessing – you will probably never suffer from serious constipation and will likely maintain low cholesterol through your life. Yay!
Raw veggies are full of enzymes, minerals, fiber and vitamins that your body needs for good health besides tasting good. Chlorophyll is a great body cleanser and natural deodorizer, too. We naturally crave what we need to maintain good health. My daughter had a chronic illness as a teen and would crave the most unusual foods. Eggplant for example. I bought it for her, sometimes 3 per week and then decided to research what eggplant had in it that might benefit her health. There is a natural chemical in eggplant that is anti-seizure, she had been having seizures for over a year. She started craving Indian curry spices and using them on a daily basis. I researched that mixture and discovered that turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, cayenne and other spices that are in curry powder are anti-inflammatory and natural painkillers, she had arthritis with her illness. There were several other foods that helped to heal her and by the time she was freshman in college she no longer needed her medications.
Your body is probably in need of whatever nutrients a fresh salad can offer to your diet. Vit A, C, iron, potassium… could be all sorts of stuff. Indulge yoru craving! Just don’t go overboard w/ the dressing!
I find it interesting that your body will let you know what it needs. It’s true. You are probably becoming more attuned to your body so you are recognizing these cravings. When your body needs certain vitamines and minerals, you will crave the food that will supply them. This is why some people eat dirt. No kidding.
People go through phases like this all the time. I went through a salad phase last year..couldn’t get enough of them. It will pass. I wasn’t lacking anything though..I ate tons of veggies all the time.
This happens to me too, sometimes my body craves things that it needs… fruit vegetables
wish it was me
I only crave unhealthy stuff
