For example: 122/76 (122 over 76); systolic = 122, diastolic = 76. Blood pressure of less than 140 over 90 is considered a normal reading for adults. A systolic pressure of 130 to 139 or a diastolic pressure of 85 to 89 needs to be watched carefully. A blood pressure reading equal to or greater than 140 (systolic) over 90 (diastolic) is considered elevated (high). In some people, the system that regulates blood pressure goes awry: arteries throughout the body stay constricted, driving up the pressure in the larger blood vessels. Sustained high blood pressure – above 140/90 mm Hg, according to most experts – is called hypertension

  • “Normal” BP is considered less than 120 over less than 80, so your blood pressure is a bit high. Given that it isn’t extremely high, it can probably be brought down through exercise and modifying your diet.

The automated blood pressure machines for purchase are not always the most accurate. One thing I have discovered about them is that they are usually consistent.

Given this, your blood pressure can and probably should be a bit lower. The severity of this value mostly depends on what other risk factors you have for Coronary Artery Disease are.

If you are worried about it, go in to the clinic and have it checked. To determine if you have high blood pressure they will probably measure it on more than one occasion. If they feel it is too high, they can instruct you from there.

  • High blood pressure is a symptom not a disease. If you can find a cause, great. Most of the time they just label it “essential hypertension” which means they have no idea what causes it. I had high BP that comes down when ever I loose weight, does that mean if I take BP meds, I will loose weight? Just check it from time to time in case it gets worse.

Salt has no effect in 85% of the population. Magnesium is a cheap and natural way to lower it.

  • kill you ? come on. I have seen BPs that are 190 over 160 and they were still talking to me.

Have it rechecked for free at any urgent care center and see what it is on a few different days…

  • No not at all!

If the bottom number is above 100, then be worried. That blood pressure is fine for your age. Don’t worry. The more you worry, the higher it will be!!!

  • The 96 number is to high, it probably won’t kill you but may damage your kidneys, better have your doctor check it out.

  • no not at all thats very good bp at your age you sound very fit.. sometimes if you work out the night before a test if can be high but your isn’t high
